Abstract
700,799. Making gilled tubes. RASMUSSEN, G. July 10, 1952 [July 13, 1951], No. 17450/52. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4) Coiling.-In an apparatus for coiling a helical fin 3 on a tube 1 the fin is guided from a spool 2 by rolls 4 and a stationary guide 6. The tube is rotated and translated by oblique rolls 7 driven from an electromotor through universal joints and sliding couplings 23, 24. The roller journals are carried in spherical bearings 32 adjusted by screws 33, according to the diameter of the tube, in discs 28 rotated in members 27 to alter the obliquity of the rolls. As the fin is wound on the tube the distance between the point of tube contact of the rolls and the fin guides remains constant. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the roller journals are carried in piston like radially adjusted bearings controlled by cam discs.
