Abstract
946,407. Drawing tubes. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Oct. 5, 1961 [Oct. 6, 1960], No. 34369/60. Heading B3M. A tube drawing apparatus comprises a plurality of balls in an internally tapered outer race which is rotatably driven, and means for adjusting the axial position of the balls in the outer race. In an embodiment for reducing the diameter of pre-formed tubes, the drawing balls 1 are adjusted by axial movement of screw 22 through a housing 27, the balls 1 being urged into contact with an annular shoulder on member 18 by a spring urged member 19. The outer race 3 is driven by gears 8, 9 and pulley 16. The tube 4 to be drawn may be pulled or pushed through the apparatus and is supported internally by a mandrel. The apparatus may also be used for drawing insulated electrical cables to reduce their diameter.
