An extrusion head for covering a core C with plastic material comprises a head 284 with a cylindrical aperture 104 having an extrusion die 98 at one end and a transverse inlet 288 between its ends, a core tube 122 in the aperture and in the annular space between the core tube 122 and the wall of the aperture 104 a helical guide 282 of gradually decreasing diameter so that some of the plastic material will flow in an axial direction over the guide and some will flow helically around the guide to facilitate uniform delivery to all parts of the die. The helical guide and core tube may be integral.
