Abstract

853,964. Extrusion dies. DANITE HARD METALS Ltd. March 21, 1957 [March 29, 1956], No. 9954/56. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXII] A press for extruding metals or non-metals comprises a container or cylinder 10 communicating with an extrusion cavity 17 in an extruder head 13 having a frusto-conical bore 18 intersecting the cavity and housing a longitudinally divided frusto-conical die holder 19 with radial passages 25 for feeding the extrudable material to the extrusion die 28, the juxtaposed faces 21a of the die holder lying in a place substantially at the common axis of the cylinder and cavity. The die is adjustably supported in the die holder by packings 30. The head 13 is cylindrical and is secured to the cylinder 10 by a screw clasp 14. The die holder has an end flange 22, Fig. 4 (not shown), and is secured in its bore 18 by screws 23 passing through the flange. In one embodiment for extruding a flux coating on a welding rod, the latter is passed through a hollow guide tube 29 supported in the die holder by packings 30. The container is charged with the flux in a plastic condition. For extruding tubes the guide tube 30 is replaced by a mandrel holder having a mandrel projecting into the die orifice. The apparatus may be used for extruding rods.
