Abstract

1,128,664. Cross-head extrusion dies. R. HAGEN, [trading as KAUTEX WERKEREINOLDHAGEN]. 21 Oct., 1965 [21 Oct., 1964], No. 44644/65. Heading B5A. A cross-head extrusion die 110 comprises a mandrel 115 which defines with a sleeve 47 an annular extrusion passageway 129, thermoplastics material being fed to this passageway via a screw impeller 112, channel 134 and then, after division of the material into substantially equal parts at a divider 137, via two intermediate ducts 132 and two distributer ducts 130. Distributer ducts 130 diverge downstream and the parts recombine in passageway 129 to form an annular stream. Sleeve 47 defines with casing 114 an annular material storage chamber 48. Material entering this chamber from passageway 129 displaces a floating piston 50 and is subsequently extruded through orifice 119 when axial pressure is applied to piston 50 via rods 51 and a further piston 52 housed chamber 53. The operation of these pistons is more fully described in Specification 1,048,432. A rod 117 attached to a mandrel 118 passes through mandrel 115 and is adjustable axially by a piston and cylinder arrangement (40), (41). In a modification (not shown), two oppositely disposed screw impellers feed material to the cross-head.
