Abstract

1,078,310. Two-part connectors. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Nov. 24, 1964 [Dec. 6, 1963], No. 47799/64. Heading H2E. A connector 2 is locked in its inoperative position to a hollow cylindrical support 3 with a wide slot (31) by three balls 14 carried in recesses 12 and held in an annular channel 32 by the action of a spring-operated cylinder 16. Upon the first connector 1, mounted on a movable assembly, engaging second connector 2, the cylinder 16 is forced back against its spring 20, Fig. 2 (not shown), and the balls 14 leave the recesses 32 so that the second connector 2 is released from the support 3. The balls 14 enter the recesses 42 and are held there by spring-urged cylinder 24, Fig. 3 (not shown), so that the connectors 1, 2 are locked together. During the reverse process, cylinder 24 is retracted when connector 2 engages the support 3, to allow the balls 14 to re-enter recess 32 where they are locked in position by cylinder 16. Radially mounted studs 34, 44 co-operate with a longitudinal slot (36) in the guide bushing 10 to centre the connectors.
