Abstract

1311061 Tampons DR CARL HAHN KG 30 July 1970 [31 July 1969] 36993/70 Addition to 1098400 Heading ASR Apparatus for the production of a tampon by rolling up a wadding pad on a rotary mandrel and of the type disclosed in Specification 1098400, which comprises the mandrel, means for forming a knotted loop of draw thread loosely around the pad before rolling, a sleeve mounted for coaxial movement over part of the mandrel but non-rotatable therewith, means for axially reciprocating the sleeve, and thread guiding means carried by the mandrel and by the sleeve, the guiding means on the sleeve being shaped to intercept and direct the knotted ends of the draw thread internally of the sleeve while the mandrel is rotated and the sleeve displaced axially into one end of the pad being rolled up whereby the draw thread is wound into a flat spiral in an annular recess formed by the sleeve in said one end of the pad, is improved by forming the sleeve so that the end thereof facing the pad of wadding has an annular shoulder 7 lying in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the sleeve, one end of a guide groove 8 for the draw thread merging tangentially with the shoulder 7 and the other end of the groove 8 running to a longitudinal edge 13 of a slot in the sleeve extending away from said sleeve end facing the pad, the circumferential extent of the groove 8 on the sleeve being such that the opposite ends of the groove are bounded by planes radial of the sleeve and forming an included angle of about 10‹ to 15‹, the groove 8 being curved, while maintaining a constant distance from the axis of the sleeve, in the longitudinal direction of the sleeve so that it has a radius of curvature of about 2 to 3mm., said edge 13 of the slot being a flat surface coplanar with a guide plate 70 extending from the periphery of the sleeve, and the guide plate having a leading edge which lies in the same plane as the shoulder 7.
