1,088,176. Cigarette making machines. ZAVODY V. I. LENINA PLZEN NARODNI PODNIK. May 5, 1965 [May 6, 1964], No. 18947/65. Heading A2C. Cigarette groups 1 comprising two cigarette lengths and an interposed doublelength filter are fed from a channel 2 to the grooves 4 of a feed cylinder 5, the angle between the flanks on the grooves being 20 degrees and the base of each groove corresponding to the curvature of the cross-section of a cigarette group. The groups are fed to a suction cylinder 10 on which a paper strip 32 is cut into connector strips 26 and the groups are rolled with the connecter strips between cylinder 10 and a rolling surface 11, the distance between the cylinder 10 and the surface 11 being 0.3-0.6 mm. less than the diameter of a cigarette group. The rolling surface 11 forms part of a pivoted lever and may be adjusted by means of a screw 20 or moved into an inoperative position shown in dashed lines. The cylinder 10 has circumferential grooves into which extend plates 23 which guide the groups into the grooves of a cylinder 24 revolving at half speed of the cylinder 5. The flanks of the grooves of the cylinder 24 include an angle of 72 degrees and one flank lies on a radial line of the cylinder. From the cylinder 24 the groups are fed to a further cylinder 27 in which they are cut into individual filter cigarettes and delivered to a belt 30.
