Abstract

699,762. Bed-pan washing apparatus. HAWKINS & CO., Ltd., A. L., and HAWKINS, A. L. March 26, 1952 [March 28, 1951], No. 7237/51. Class 26 Bed-pan washing apparatus comprises a cast or moulded upright washing vessel 1 with front openings 4, a metal front plate 6 secured to it which closes the lower part of the opening and leaves an upper segment-shaped opening 7, and which carries hinges 14 near the lower edge of the opening and outside the vessel, and a door 12 attached to the hinges and shaped correspondingly to the segment-shaped opening 7 so that, when open, a bed-pan 22 attached to it extends into the vessel and, when closed, the bedpan is tilted about an axis near to the bottom of the pan and within its length to discharge its contents into the lower part of the vessel under spray from nozzles at 23 and 24. Correct alignment of the door is ensured by making the hinge arms 15 adjustably rotatable about the screws 16, and a gutter 26 returns to the vessel 1 any fluid escaping through the opening 7.
