Be it known that I, WALTER Josnrn BAUER MILLER, a citizen of the Republic of Germany, residing at Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Wickets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to buildings and has special reference to doors for buildings.

More particularly the invention relates to a wicket door provided with a peep hole or.

judas, the device being preferably termed a combined wicket and jud'as.

One important object of the invention is to provide, in a door or wall, a wicket through which packages may be delivered or received and having a judas provided with a closure so arranged that closing of the judas will lock the wicket against opening.

A second important object of the invention is to provide, in a device as described, an arrangement whereby opening of the judas may be effected without unlatching the wicket.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combina tions of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed.

In the door 10 is formed an opening 11 and on the outside of the door this opening is provided with a flanged rim plate 12 which is secured in position by screws 13, the plate being L shaped in cross section and of proper contour to conform to the shape of the opening. A screen 14 is secured to this plate by a spring hinge 15 which serves to hold the screen closed so that the opening in the door is made less prominent to per sons passing the door. A button 16 is pro vided to enable a person on the outside to open the screen.

()n the inside of the door there is provided a similar rim plate 17 which is secured in position by screws 18. To the rim plate is hinged a wicket 19 provided with a button or the like so that it may be opened or closed. In this wicket is formed an opening 20 constituting the judas.

Pivoted to the frame at the side opposite the wicket hinge is an arm 21 which may be swung over the wicket 19 when the latter 'is closed and when in this position the arm will hold the wicket against opening movement. This arm is provided with an enlarged end or head 22 which covers the judas when the.

arm is in one extreme position of its move' ment. It will be noted that the arm and judas are so arranged that the arm may be swung to open the judas without releasing the wicket, such releasing being only possible with the arm at the other extremity of its movement.

In operating the device a person ap proaching the door from the outside gives some signal, as by ringing a bell or knocking. The person within then moves the judas flap or cover sufficiently to open the judas but not enough to permit opening of the wicket. If he finds, by observation through the judas, that the person outside is the proper one, he then moves the judas flap further and frees the wicket so that he may open the same and converse with the person outside, give a package to or receive a package from him.

A thumb screw 23 is screwed through the arm to engage the wicket when the judas is closed so that it cannot be opened from the outside.

There has thus been provided a simple and efficient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified. I

It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the prin ciples involved. It is not, therefore, desired to confine the invention to the exact form shown and described, but it is wished to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, is

1. The combination with a frame; of a wicket hinged to the frame at one side thereof and provided with a judas, a latch arm pivoted to the frame at the side opposite the hinges of the wicket and swinging across the wicket to hold the same from opening, said arm being movable to uncover the wicket and permit opening thereof, and an enlarged arm being movable to clear the wicket and permit opening thereof an enlarged head on said arm to cover the jlidas in one position of the arm, and means to hold said arm releasably in judas covering position.
