Abstract
439,691. Sanitary closets. JACKSON, E. L., 101, Gray's Inn Road, London, and CHRISTOPHER, S. A., 52, Meadway, High Barnet, Hertfordshire. June 12, 1934, No. 17428. [Class 26] In a closet in which a shutter is provided between a pan and a sewage receiver, the shutter is associated with the cover connected with the closet-seat through an operative connection adapted to open and close the shutter when the seat is raised and lowered respectively. The shutter 1, Figs. 1 and 2, which works about a hinge, is connected by a link 8 to a rod 9 sliding in a tubular guide 10 and having a nut 11 upon a threaded part to permit adjustment of the distance between the shutter and a member 12 carried by an arm 13 by which the cover 14 is connected to the hinge-pin 15. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the shutter is hinged at 2 to the pan 3 and the receiver 26 is located in a casing 23 on the upper edge of which rests the flange 24 of the pan which carries a shield 25 covering the mouth of the receiver. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the pan is of earthenware, has a ventilationconnection 35 and rests upon an extension 6 of a receiver 7 which is equipped with valvemeans for the periodical discharge of its contents. The shutter is provided with arms 4 connected to a hinge-pin 5 carried by the extension.
