[Class 26] Relates to sanitary closets of the kind comprising a chamber 5, Fig. 1, a pail 1 mounted over the chamber and open at the bottom, a basin 4 pivotally mounted inside the chamber which, in its normal position, surrounds the lower end of the pail and contains water to form a seal between pail and chamber, the basin being tilted downwardly by an operating lever 8a to discharge its contents into the. chamber against the action of counter-balancing means serving to return the basin to its normal position. A stop 14 is arranged in the path of the operating arm 8a to prevent the basin 4a, when tilted, from coming into contact with the back of the pail. A weight 16, Fig. 2, may be employed for counterbalancing the basin, a stop 17 being provided for arresting the weight, when the basin is returned to its normal position, so that the basin does not strike the lower edge of the pail. Instead of a weight, the counterbalancing may be effected by a spring 19, Fig. 3, acting on an arm 18 fixed on the pivot 15 of the basin. A stop 21 in the path of the arm prevents the basin, on returning to its normal position, from striking the lower edge of the pail. The spring 19, acting under tension, may be replaced by a spring acting under compression, as shown in Fig. 3. The operating lever 8a is held against accidental displacement in its normal position by a spring- pressed stop 11, past which it may be forcibly moved to tilt the basin.
