Abstract

827,394. Sanitary closets. HOWIE Ltd., J. & R. Feb. 6, 1958 [Nov. 9, 1956], No. 34253 /56. Class 26. [Also in Group XXV] In a self-lifting water closet seat assembly comprising a seat proper 9 pivotal between a horizontal and an upright position, a piston- and-cylinder unit 11, 12, and a spring 15 for urging the piston 12 to tend to raise the seat proper 9, the unit has a pivot mounting 10 and so pivots as the seat proper 9 moves, and the piston 12 is pivotally connected to a rear part of the seat proper 9. The spring 15 acting on a nut 14 urges the piston 12 towards the lower end to raise the seat proper 9, the upward movement being limited by a stop 19 on a bracket 17 engaging the mounting 10. The spring 15 may be of the tension type, contracting when the seat is raised and vice-versa.
