Abstract

784.720. Cvcle supports. FRANCIS & BARNETT, Ltd. March 16, 1956 [March 19, 1955], No. 8051/55. Class 136(1) In a cycle stand of the kind having one or two legs pivotally mounted on a cycle or motor cycle, the pivot 7 of the stand leg or legs 9 is movable relative to the cycle on which it is mounted and an operating lever 15 is provided which is operable to lower the pivot 7 in relation to the cycle in order to increase the effective height of the stand for raising the cycle when the leg'or legs 9 has or have been swung to the lowered supporting position. A fixed mounting 1 consisting of parallel plates 4 is secured to the cycle frame. The pivot 7 of the stand legs 9 is movable in vertical slots 6 formed in the plates 4. The 'legs 9 are provided with lugs 11 which are pivotally mounted on a tube forming the pivot 7. A tension spring 12 is connected at one end to a stand leg 9 and at the other end to an anchorage 13 on the mounting 1. The spring 12 swings across the pivotal axis 7 of the legs 9 as the latter are raised or lowered so that a snap action to either position is obtained. The operating lever - 15 has .a cranked integral extension 16 which is journalled in the tube 10. The lever 15 and shaft 16 are produced from hexagonal bar and engage holes of complementary form in cams 17. In operation the stand is lowered and held in position by the snap action of the spring and then the lever 15 is swung down by foot operation on a pedal portion 20 to a position alongside an adjacent leg 9 (Fig. 4). The movement of the lever 15 rotates the cams 17 so that their bearing surfaces co-operate with flanges 19 on the mounting plates 4 whereby the tube 10 and shaft 16 are forced to the lower ends of the slots 6 and the machine is raised from the ground. Flanges 22 are formed on the lugs 11 of the stand legs 9 to abut against the rear edges 23 of the mounting plates 4. The legs 9 and lever 15 may be held in the inoperative position solely by the spring 12 or an additional tension spring 24 may be anchored between the tube 10 and a support 25 for the rear mudguard. An abutment 27 is formed on one of the plates 4. To avoid undue extension of the spring 12, the anchorage 13 for the spring is provided on a plate 29 that is pivotally mounted on the shaft 16 and has a slot 31 slidable about a foot rest mounting stud 32.
