A mechanically propelled walking toy figure comprises a clockwork mechanism for rotating a leg actuating shaft 10 on the ends of which are mounted pairs of eccentrics 12, 13 and 12a, 13a. A bar 15 of a leg 14 engages the eccentric 12 and has a slot 15 through which passes a screw 16 secured to a frame 1 of the clockwork mechanism; a pivot bolt 17 passes through the ankle end of the bar. A knee bar 18 slotted at 18a is attached to a foot bar 21 by a screw 20 and to the bar 15 by a screw 19, a shoe 22 being -secured to the lower end of the foot bar. A wheel 24 is arranged to project through a hole 22a in the shoe is mounted on a bar 23 which at its upper end engages the eccentric 13 and at its lower end has a slot 23b for engagement with the pivot bolt 17 on the bar 15. An extension 15c of the bar 15 is connected to an arm 26 of the toy figure by means of a pivot pin 29 and a slotted lever 28a, the arm being rotatable on a bolt 27 and frictionally engaged with a rubber member 28 which is mounted on a lever 28a. In operation, the bar 15<SP>1</SP> of leg 14a is raised, swung radially and then lowered by the eccentric 12a, the shoe 22<SP>1</SP> being moved upwardly and forwardly and remaining, substantially parallel with the supporting surface. Simultaneously, the wheel bar 23<SP>1</SP> is moved downwardly by the eccentric 23a, and the wheel 24<SP>1</SP>maintains the figure upright. During the forward stride of the leg 14a, the shoe of the other leg 14 remains flat on the supporting surface, the necessary movement of the foot bar 21 being caused by the knee bar 18. The arms 26, 26a are made to swing in correct relation to the legs by the leg bars 15, 15<SP>1</SP>, members 28 enabling the arms to be initially set to any desired position. Electric motor drive is also specified.
