[Also in Group XVII] A combined hopper and shoot comprises a receptacle 11 pivotable about an axis 12 to a vertical position so that a container 33 may be placed in it, whereafter the receptacle is inverted as shown to pour out the contents of the container 33 to a dispensing shoot 25 formed by one end of the receptacle 11. A gate 34, for varying a throat opening 35 to the shoot 25 is adjustably bolted to a support 37 pivoted at 38 to the receptacle 11. The support 37 also carries a plate 41 that can swing to a closed position, as shown, where it is retained by a pair of spring-urged latches 51. The plate 41 then retains the container 33 in the otherwise openfronted receptacle 11. To place the container 33 in the receptacle, the receptacle is rotated about the pivots 12 to an upright position. The latches 51 are released and the support 37 is rotated about the pivots 38 such that the plate 41 swings outwardly until it is secured by a latch 61 pivoted to the receptacle. The container 33 is then moved into the receptacle 11 through the open face 24, the latch 61 released and the plate 41 swung back to its closed position and held there by the latches 51. The receptacle 11 is then inverted and articles flow from the container 33 to the shoot 25 ready for use when required.
