Abstract
A fertilizer containing dicalcium phosphate and ammonium nitrate is obtained by attacking natural phosphate with nitric acid and treating the resultant mass with ammonia to bring the pH of the liquid to 3, then with ammonia and sulphuric acid simultaneously to increase the pH up to 5, and finally with ammonia alone until the mass contains no more phosphoric acid soluble in water. The temperature is maintained between 90 and 100 DEG C during the additions. The paste obtained, if desired with added potassium salts, may be dried and granulated. According to an example, 4180 kilos of Moroccan phosphate (34 per cent P2O5) is treated with 7,500 kilos of 52 per cent nitric acid and the product is passed successively through seven tanks with stirrers. Gaseous ammonia is introduced into the first and last tanks and mixture of gaseous ammonia and sulphuric acid introduced into tanks 2 to 6. The product contains 8.25 per cent each of nitrate and ammoniacal nitrogen and 14 per cent of phosphoric acid of which none is water soluble.ALSO:A fertilizer containing dicalcium phosphate and ammonium nitrate is obtained by attacking natural phosphate with nitric acid and treating the resultant mass with ammonia to bring the pH of the liquid to 3, then with ammonia and sulphuric acid simultaneously to increase the pH up to 5 and finally with ammonia alone until the mass contains no more phosphoric acid soluble in water.
