Abstract

699.055. Walls. NEEL, E., THOMAS, R., and GEAR, A. M., [trading as ARCON CHARTERED ARCHITECTS]. Oct. 11, 1951, No. 23701/51. Class 20(iv) A wall comprising a substantially horizontal rail 1 and substantially vertical sheet cladding 2, 3, 4, 5, affixed thereto by means of cover strips 6, 7 disposed over the adjacent edges of the sheets has a preformed flashing strip 17 disposed horizontally between an upper and lower sheet, the strip being hung on the rail 1. and clamped thereto by the cover strips. The channel strips 6, 7 each have an interior slot 8 to accommodate the heads 9 of bolts 13, 14, and ribs 10 to provide a bearing for the outwardly turned edges 11, 12 of the sheets. Bolts 13, 14 for securing the cover strips and sheets to the sheeting rail are provided with clips 15, 16. The flashing strip is hung on the sheeting rail by, a hook like flange 18 before the upper sheets 2, 3 and cover 6 are in position, and the vertical flange 19 is sandwiched between the rail 1 and sheets 2 and 3. The. upper surface 20 of the strip slopes downwardly to provide a run-way for rain &c. and the downwardly directed edge 21 protects the upper edges of members 4, 5 and 7 from the weather. The invention may also be applied to constructions in which the fixing means for the cover strip are not concealed. Specification 699,054 is referred to.
