Abstract
698,977. Fuel injection pumps. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. May 31, 1951 [May 31 1950], No. 12962/51. Class 7 (iii). [Also in Group XXVIII] An injection pump 8 for delivering a fuel-air mixture to an injection nozzle comprises a movable cylinder 13 with a piston 9 fixed therein and an opposed piston 10 slidable with friction in the upper part of the cylinder 13, the piston 10 being carried down by the cylinder 13 on the suction stroke until it contacts an adjustable stop 14 and being carried up on the delivery stroke until it is held stationary by a resilient stop 15, after which the piston 9 moves into contact with the piston 10 to effect complete displacement of the fuel-air mixture in the pressure space 22. The fuel-air emulsion is formed in a supply pump 5 having a fuel suction valve 3 and an air bleed port 20 co-operating with a second suction valve 19. The emulsion enters the pressure space 22 when a port 21 in cylinder 13 opens the delivery pipe 7, the volume of the space 22 and hence the delivery per stroke being controlled by adjustment of the stop 14. The fuel air mixture may be injected through the valve 17 by an air blast and a mixing screen for breaking up air bubbles in the fuel may be provided in the suction or delivery pipe of the injection pump 8 or supply pump 5.
