Classes 38 (iii) and 38 (v) A limit switch for arresting the action of a reversible electric motor comprises a screw-threaded spindle d driven by the motor, a non-rotatable nut k driven rectilinearly by the spindle till it engages one of two adjustable collars or stops o on a sleeve i whereupon the sleeve moves along with the nut and a collar n, also adjustable on the sleeve causes a spring biased contact f to disengage two fixed contacts g thereby breaking the circuit to an electromagnetic contactor controlling the motor circuit. Should the contactor fail to respond to the limit switch the sleeve i moves further and contact plungers s leave contact strips t to break the motor circuit. The safety switch s, t does not respond during normal working.
