Abstract

634,539. Control of several motors; controllers ; mechanical switches. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. Nov. 13, 1947, No. 30241. Convention date, Jan. 16, 1947. [Classes 38 (iii) and 38 (v)] A multi-contact switch, in particular for machine-tool carriers, controlling electric motors effecting various drives of the machine is subjected to the action of a cam supported by the movable frame of the machine which depresses, against a spring, a switch-rod carrying contact rings which are so disposed relative to fixed contacts that a predetermined sequence and timing of making and breaking contacts can be arranged, whereby a tool head can automatically make various working cycles. Fig. 1 shows a frame 1 carrying at its extremities trunnions 2, 3 on which a rod 6 is mounted by the air of cylindrical members 4, 5. A bell-crank lever 8 pivoted in the upper part of the frame 1 is actuated by a cam (not shown) carried by a movable spindle-supporting frame of the machine. One of the arms 8 of the cam 8 is always in contact with an end piece 7 projecting outside the frame 1. Sliding freely on the rod 6 are distance-pieces 9 separated by abutment rings 10, which support the contact rings 11 mounted on insulating rings 12. The latter slide freely on distancepieces 9, the last of which bears against an end ring 13 which in turn bears against a spring 14. The frame 1 supports through insulating material two series of contact members 15 comprising lugs 16 which make or break contact with the rings 11 according to the position of the latter. The multi-contact switch can serve to operate sequentially one or more tool heads, also a succession of operations can be made. Fig. 2 shows a circuit diagram for controlling motors by means of the multi-contact switch, the contact rings of which are represented by 1P, 2P, 3P, 4P. The contacts shown correspond to the disconnected position of the machine. The multi-contact switch can be arranged to be movable and the actuating cam fixed.
