Abstract

Filaments, yarns and fabrics of the synthetic linear polyesters derived from glycols of the formula HO(CH2)nOH (where n=2 to 10 inclusive) and terephthalic acid, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, are treated in an aqueous solution of sodium sulphide, whereby their affinity for dispersed acetate dyes is increased and a pitted surface is produced, which surface assists the bonding of the materials to rubber and rubber-like materials, reduces the brightness and frictional grip of the yarn, reduces the thickness of the fabric and gives it a softer handle. In the examples treatment is at 120 DEG C. for 15 and 30 seconds.ALSO:The affinity of filaments, yarns and fabrics of the synthetic linear polyesters derived from glycols of the formula HO(CH2)nOH (where n= 2 to 10 inclusive) and terephthalic acid, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, for dispersed acetate rayon dyestuffs, is increased by treatment with aqueous sodium sulphide. In the examples treatment is at 120 DEG C. for 15 and 30 seconds, followed by dyeing with Dispersol Fast Scarlet G150 in a bath containing Dispersol VL.ALSO:Treatment of filaments, yarns and fabrics of the synthetic linear polyesters derived from glycols of the formula HO (CH2) nOH (where n = 2 to 10 inclusive) and terephthalic acid, e.g., polyethylene terephthalate, with aqueous sodium sulphide produces a pitted surface which assists in the bonding of the materials to rubber and rubber-like materials.
