Abstract

Polyethylene terephthalate fibres are incorporated with woollen fibres in textile fabrics or yarns which are shrink-proofed by treatment with chlorine or chlorine-producing agents. Wool may form the major constituent of the fabrics or yarns. Yarns may be spun from mixed wool and polyethylene terephthalate staple fibres, or polyethylene terephthalate yarns, which may be continuous filament yarns, may be included with woollen yarns in the composition of the fabric. In an example hanks of yarn of the mixed fibre are treated with sodium hypochlorite solution, rinsed and dechlorinated with sodium thiosulphate solution.
