Abstract
698,055. Cables. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES, Ltd. March 20, 1952 [March 21, 1951], No. 6778/51. Addition to 581,830. Class 36. [Also in Group VIII] In an insulated cable having impregnated fibrous dielectric, the impregnant within the fibrous material and in the interstices thereof consisting of micro-crystalline petroleum wax as disclosed in the parent Specification, the wax has a melting point of about 88‹ C. and needle penetration values of about 5 at 25‹ C. and about 35 at 70‹ C. The impregnant may consist wholly of this wax, or of a blend of this wax with one or more micro-crystalline petroleum waxes having higher penetration values at high temperatures, the blended wax having a melting point between 85‹ and 90‹ C. and needle penetration values varying from about 5 or 6 at 25‹ C. to between 35 and 50 at 70‹ C. Alternatively, not less than about 48 per cent by weight of the first-mentioned wax or not less than about 50 per cent by weight of the blended wax may be compounded with cable impregnating mineral oil or a plasticizer such as polyisobutene having an average molecular weight of 20,000 to 100,000 and/or rosin, or a mixture of such oil with one or both of the plasticizers.
