[Also in Group VIII] In a cable having impregnated fibrous insulation, the impregnant comprises a normally plastic solid containing low dielectric loss synthetic hydrocarbon wax having a melting point of between 85‹ C. and 120‹ C. and a mineral oil of very low viscosity and low volatility. The hydrocarbon wax may be obtained in the hydrogenation of carbon monoxide in accordance with the Fischer- Tropsch synthesis, or may comprise a polyethylene wax having a molecular weight between 2,000 and 6,000. The compound may also include a micro-crystalline petroleum wax and one or more plasticizers such as polyisobutylene, polyethylene and butyl rubber. Small proportions of anti-oxidants and metal sequestrators may also be added. Specifications 581,380, [Group XXXIX], 698,056 and 712,781 are referred to.
