Drawings to Specification..[Class 36] In an electric cable used for submarine telephony having two co-axial conductors, the space between them is completely filled with insulating material consisting essentially . of normally solid polymers of ethylene. The insulating material may contain an addition not exceeding 50 per cent., of paraffin wax or may consist of fibrous material such as paper impreg-. nated with the ethylene polymers produced as described in Specification 491,804, [Group IV], and the polymers should preferably have a molecular weight of at least 10,000. Alternatively, the material may be in the form of a wrapping of a latex or rubber produced as described in Specification 474,426, [Group IV]. The space between the conductors is filled by softening the material by heating to 100-130‹C. and extruding it from a nozzle on the conducting core, the latter being cooled as it issues from the nozzle to cool the material. When the material is wrapped round the core, the wrapped core may be heated for a short time to a temperature slightly above the softening point of the material. The solid polymers of ethylene may be produced as described in Specification 471,590, [Group IV]. Specification 517,065 also is referred to.
