Abstract

505,762. Cables. SWALLOW, J. C., PERRIN, M. W., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Oct. 14, 1937, No. 28021. [Class 36] [Also in Groups IV and VIII] A high tension cable is insulated with solid polymers of ethylene or with a fibrous material impregnated therewith. The polymers may be prepared as described in Specification 471,590, [Group IV]. The polymers may be extruded at 120-130‹ C. from a nozzle on to the core, and may be cooled by air blast or by a liquid as they leave the nozzle : or, tapes or ribbons of the polymers produced as described in Specification 474,426, [Group IV], may be wound on the core ; or, the core may be covered with paper impregnated with the polymers as described in Specification 491,804, [Group IV]. A lead sheath may then be extruded over the insulation or, if the latter is extruded, the sheath may be extruded simultaneously therewith. The cable may be armoured.
