[Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group VIII] An electrically insulating adhesive tape comprises a fibrous base impregnated or coated with a liquid which has a viscosity of 10<SP>3</SP>-10<SP>6</SP> poises at 20‹C. such liquid comprising either (a) polymerized α-methyl styrene, (b) a mixture of polystyrene and polymerized α-methyl styrene or (c) a mixture of polystyrene and a plasticizer. Mixture (b) is determined by a graph co-ordinating percentage and viscosity of the polymerized α-methyl styrene. For mixture (c) the following plasticizers, with suitable proportions, are given-α-isoamylnaphthalene, diphenyl methane, diphenylbutane and 1:1-di-ptolylethane. The fibrous base may be of paper, cotton, wool or silk ; cellulosic base material may be partially esterified, as described in Specifications 372,312, 395,737, [Group VIII], and 525,265, and a wool base may be treated as described in Specification 449,955.
