Abstract

562,766. Impregnating - compositions for electric insulation. MIDDLESEX OIL. & CHEMICAL WORKS, Ltd., and THOM, J. W. : Oct. 12, 1942, Nos. 14303 and 15091. [Class 140] [Also in Group III] Petroleum jelly for use in electrical insulation is mixed with a wax-like amorphous hydrocarbon having a melting point between 82 and 100‹ C. such as ozokerite, ceresine, high melting point petrolatum, and amorphous wax in such proportion that the mixture still has the consistency of petroleum jelly but melts between 70 and 85‹ C. Mineral oil may be added. The modified petroleum jelly may be added to impregnating media for dielectric materials for cable wrappings, comprising mineral oil with or without a viscosity augmenting substance such as a natural or synthetic resin, e.g. rosin or polystyrene, or a polymerised mineral oil. Specifications 441,882 and 448,790 are referred to.
