Abstract

531,066. Cable joints. SOC. ITALIANA PIRELLI. Sept. 28, 1939, No. 26792. Convention date, Jan. 20. [Class 38 (i)] A joint for cables of the kind described in Specifications 519,602 and 519,603 which are impregnated with gasogenic materials such as mineral oils which are themselves gasogenic or are rendered so by the addition of iso-octanes, iso-nonanes &c. is itself impregnated with similar materials. This has the effect of producing a gas pressure in the joint to balance the pressure of the gas produced in the cable which is thus prevented from passing into the joint. Where the pressure in the joint is to be maintained within limits gasovorous or gas-absorbing materials such as olefinic or aromatic hydrocarbons as used in the cables described in Specification 531,065 may be added.
