[Class 36] Oil or compound impregnated cables of the constant-volume type has as an impregnant a mixture of gasogenic and gasovorous materials so as to maintain, under a given load a constant predetermined pressure, which will be lower than that at which ionization is prevented entirely. The gasogenic component comprises paraffinic hydrocarbons which are liquid at ordinary temperatures and the gasovorous component comprises olefinic or aromatic hydrocarbons. The equilibrium pressure attained is normally above atmospheric pressure. Preferably the insulation and impregnating medium have any oxygen removed by washings with hydrogen or other suitable gas. Specifications 519,602 and 519,603 are referred to.
