Abstract

581,830. Impregnating compositions. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., and KING, A. Jan. 18, 1945, No. 1493. [Class 140] [Also in Group XXXVI] In a dielectric of impregnated fibrous material for insulating an electric cable, the impregnant within the fibrous material and in the interstices between the turns and layers contains at least 55 per cent. by weight of microcrystalline petroleum wax having a melting point of 80‹C. or higher. The impregnant may consist wholly of the wax, or it may consist of at least 55 per cent. of the wax and a mineral oil or plasticizer such as polyisobutene, polyisobutylene of the grades having a molecular weight between 20,000 and 100,000, or rosin, or a mixture of oil with one or more of these plasticizers, a suitable mixture of oil and polyisobutene being that sold under the Registered Trade Mark "Paratac." Specification 524,246 is referred to.
