696,999. Tube couplings. AEROQUIP CORPORATION. June 5, 1952. No. 14269/52. Class 99 (i). A sleeve 12 which is deformed by the axially applied pressure of a nut 14 screwed onto a nipple 32 to which a rigid tube 10 is coupled, has an inward flange 20 abutting the end of the tube, and an annular knife edge 16 which bites into the surface of the tube and is axially-spaced, e.g. by a concave portion 26, from a tube-engaging end portion 24. The nut may have an extension 36 to support the tube against vibration, and an inner surface 34 inclined at an angle of 20‹ to 30‹ to the axis of the coupling and contacting a rounded exterior surface of the sleeve. Preferably, the diameter of the end 24 is greater than that of the edge 16. There may be an interior surface portion 22 of the sleeve in sliding engagement with the tube..
