Abstract
696,932. Filters. KRETZSCHMAR, A., SCHULZ, E., and FINSTERWALDER, U. Sept. 24, 1951 [Sept. 23, 1950], No. 22251/51. Class 46 In drinking water filters having a base in which filter nozzles are symetrically arranged the base consists of pre-stressed reinforced concrete. As shown in Fig. 4, the base consists of parallel pre-stressed reinforced concrete beams 1, each being of T section, Fig. 1, rows of bushes 3 to contain nozzles (not shown), being arranged on each side of the vertical cross piece. The spacing of individual nozzles and the spacing of rows of nozzles b/2, is equal to half the width of a beam and groove, or sealing ledges may be inserted in the grooves 8 of adjacent plates. As shown the lower edges of the grooves project beyond the upper edges to leave a gap for the pouring of grouting. The nozzles may be connected to tubes having on their lower ends longitudinal slits, holes or perforations which project into the space beneath the base which communicates with a compressed air supply source, perforations 7 being provided on the cross pieces of the beams to form an uninterrupted compressed air space. To take the thrust on the filter base during backflushing, coping stones 5, or in an alternative form. ledges are fitted into the surrounding wall. In a modification the beams are of double T-shaped section. The reinforcement may be stressed before or after the setting of the concrete.
