Abstract

530,682. Reservoirs. SPARSHATT, J. H. March 30, 1939, No. 9978. [Class 69 (i)] In a section-built reservoir for permanent or temporary local water supply, two sides and the base are each formed by a plurality of trays, the flanges of adjoining base trays being clamped together with interposed resilient packing so that the base trays are capable of limited relative movement, and transversely of the base trays are arranged one or more articulated junctions at each of which there is a gap between two side trays which are clamped to a rigid post with interposed resilient packing, so that the side trays are capable of relative movement in their own plane, so that the reservoir can conform to the site upon which it is erected. The ends may each be formed of one or more trays, and all the trays may have integral or removable flanges. All bolt holes are larger than the assembly bolts, and the packing may be strips of rubber. As shown, the reservoir is built of rectangular sheet-metal trays 58, stiffened by longitudinal or diagonal channels 61, and the base trays are secured together by bolts 62 and packing 63. Angle bars 64 are bolted to the base trays with packing 65 and also spaced side trays with packing 68. The spaces between the side trays are closed by vertical posts 77 bolted to the base trays and provided with angle stiffeners 83 and packing 84, these posts being secured by bolts 82 to channel members 76 engaging the side trays. The end trays are connected to the side trays by channel members 71, bolts 72, 73 and packing 74. Oppositely disposed posts 77 may be connected by tie-plates, and the corner members 71 also may be tied.
