Fencing comprises spaced apart, or abutting horizontal rails, or as shown plastic rails 18<SP>1</SP> which are held at their ends to supporting rods 10 by pairs of wooden slats 13 bolted together to form posts. The rods 10 are secured to concrete bases 11 by bolting or by casting or slotting in position. When assembled to form openwork fencing, apertured packing blocks threaded along the rods 10 space the rails apart from each other.
