Abstract

1,211,871. Railings. BRITISH ALUMINIUM CO. Ltd. 1 Feb., 1968 [2 Feb., 1967], No. 5030/67. Heading E1B. A barrier assembly comprises identical upper and lower horizontal rails 12 and 13 interconnected with a plurality of hollow bars 28 by spigots 30 having tapered shanks 31 and dovetail shaped heads 32 slidable in dovetail shaped recesses 19 extending the length of the rails, the heads 32 having lateral extension to space adjacent bars 28. The rails may comprise a number of sections interconnected by members 20 which pass into the ends of adjacent sections and are engaged by bolts 23 passing through holes 21 in the members 20 and slots 22 in the sections, the nut 36 being housed in a dovetail recess 18. The recesses 18 also receive the heads 49 of bolts 48 for securing the rails to hollow posts 37, holes being provided in the rear faces of the posts for access to the nuts 51. In a modification the railing has posts inclined at 5 to the vertical and the rails are supported in cradles.
