Abstract

1415381 Balustrades CEGEDUR 12 Feb 1973 [10 Feb 1972] 6781/73 Heading E1B A balustrade comprises upper and lower horizontal rails 1, 2 joined by supporting posts 4 and U-sectioned bars 3 bolted through their webs to longitudinal flanges 7, 8 on the rails which extend in a plane parallel to the common plane of the bars. The balustrading is supported at intervals by posts 4, comprising rectangular, sectioned sleeves 10 having U-sectioned steel inserts 9, and being closed at their upper ends by welded plates 11 to which the upper rail I is screwed. The posts 4 are sited at joints in the lower rail sections 2 and these are bolted together by rods 26 passing through the post 4 and stirrup sections 25 attached to the rail section ends. The fixing nuts on the rails 1, 2 are concealed by snap-fitted channel sections 33, 34. To allow for a gradient of up to 4‹ angled shims are used between the upper rail 1 and the supporting posts 4, and for staircases the post and bar ends are cut at an angle.
