Abstract

Each post is made from a steel H-section. The flanges of this section have holes drilled at intervals along their length. These holes are provided as a means of fixing the trench strut. The flanges on one side of the H have strips of steel welded to them to form returns. These returns may either be trench sheeting vertically and the two flanges of the H section sit either side of the channel. This arrangement restrains the H section and thereby improves stability. The strut is held in place by a pin.
