Abstract

628,868. Lattice work posts and masts. CALUM GRANT & PARTNERS, Ltd., and GRANT, C. M. May 8, 1947, No. 12445. [Class 20(i) and 20(ii)] A metal post or mast of the latticework or openwork type, comprises a pair of upright channel - section members having their channels facing each other, diagonal bracing members having their ends bent parallel to the webs of the channel members and secured thereto, the ends of adjacent bracing members overlapping each other, angle-section members secured to and connecting the sides of the channel members at the foot thereof, bracing plates secured in pairs to opposite sides of the channel members at intervals in the height of the structure and arranged to connect the channel members together, and one or more cross members connecting the channel members together at the top thereof. The bracing members 15, Fig. 7, are fixed to the webs of the facing channel members 14 by bolts 16 passing through the overlaps 15a and the web of the channels. Below ground level on the mast the bracing plates 18, Fig. 9, are in staggered relationship, but above ground level they are located opposite one another. At the top of the mast the connecting cross member may consist of plates secured to the channel sides, or of a channel plate member 22 adapted to fit like a cap over the ends of the members 14, and also provide support for an electric insulator 23 if required. The members 14 are connected at their lower ends by a pair of angle bars 17, forming a base for connection to a sole plate, not shown. The cross arms 24 are of angle section and are secured by struts 25 to members 14, but a modification shows tubular section arms 21, Figs. 1, 6, not shown, fixed by bolts. The structure may be constructed from light alloy metal or from cold rolled steel. A climbing guard 26 may also be fitted to the mast.
