Classes 120(i) and 120(ii) A detachable intermediate unit for drafting apparatus adapted to operate upon a group of slubbings has a series of lower intermediate rollers attached to a common shaft and a series of upper intermediate rollers arranged to bear freely upon the slubbings. Preferably, the upper rollers are positively driven and may be swung upwardly separately for threading purposes without disengaging their driving. connections with a driving shaft common to a number of intermediate units. An intermediate unit 21. including intermediate rollers 13, 14 and a flume 16 for each slubbing passing through the unit is mounted on a bar 26 common to many units 21 and associated with a common traverse rod 62. Each lower roller 14 is formed with flanges 27, Fig. 5, between which the corresponding upper roller 13 fits closely, the lower rollers 14 being secured to a shaft 28 fitted with gears 29, 31 driven from a common driving shaft 41. Each roller 13 has a gear 43 secured to it to receive drive from an intermediate shaft upon which upper roller supporting brackets 42 are pivoted. Fibres are fed into the intermediate rollers 13, 14 through guides formed integrally with a common support and, after leaving the rollers, the fibres pass through flumes 16 formed integrally with a common flume support. The unit 21 is attached to the drafting apparatus by a pair of spring-loaded pins 54.
