[Class 120 (i)] Slivers of cotton or other fibres, natural or synthetic, or mixtures thereof, from a drawing-frame are drawn in a machine comprising drafting-rollers, B, Fig. 1, one or more rubbing-belts C, C<1> which have a lateral as well as a forward movement and are tightly wound under pressure on to spools L, Fig. 2, driven at variable speed to give a uniform sliver speed; the rubbing belts are arranged within staple range of the adjacent pair of drafting-rollers. The pairs of leathers may extend the full width of the machine or may comprise a number of narrow pairs arranged side by side and are carried in grooved rollers which engage ribs C<x> on the leathers and are adjustably mounted in frames d, d<2> by screws E, G, the frames being connected by screws H. The sliver from the belts passes through a pair of rollers and is wound upon the spools L passed between rollers n', V, of which n' is variably driven through cone gears n, o, the belt P of which is engaged by the fork r<3> of a belt shifter R moved along a guard plate T by means of a weighted cord as the plate is raised by the roller V during the winding.
