709,261. Textile spindle driving arrangements. TWEEDALES & SMALLEY (1920). Ltd.. MARKOWICZ, M.. and HAYTHORNTHWAITE, J. J.. Feb. 22, 1950 [Feb. 22, 1949; Dec. 14, 1949], Nos. 4802/49 and 32044/49. Class 120(2) Spindle driving mechanism for spinning and like machines in which spindles on one or both sides of a machine or machine unit are driven through a common driving tape or belt from a single driving pulley mounted on a horizontal shaft disposed longitudinally of the machine, the tape or belt being guided by idler pulleys so that the arc of contact at each spindle wharve is the same. In a machine of sectional construction, the driving t a p e A passes behind the wharve B of every spindle, an idler pulley C being disposed between each pair of spindles and an idler pulley D being provided at the end of each sectional spindle rail B' to guide the tape to or from the driving pulley F and guide pulley R. Tension is maintained on the tape A by tensioning pulleys, such as J<SP>1</SP>, carried by weighted slidable brackets. If the spindle rails B' are traversed, idlers P<SP>1</SP>, P<SP>2</SP>, Q, Q<SP>1</SP> are mounted on a frame moving with the spindle rails to maintain the tape tension constant. In another embodiment, the tape A passes along the front of the spindles with the idler pulleys C. on the outer side. In this modification, the tape is tensioned by a pulley on a weighted, pivoted lever. The spindles of adjacent units of a sectionally constructed frame are separated by a distance equal to the spindle gauge of the remainder of the machine.
