Abstract
836,270. Drawing frames. VELLA, L. Dec. 11, 1957 [Dec. 14, 1956], No. 38500/57. Class 120(1) Slivers 19 from cans 20 are fed to the intake rollers of a draw frame by driven guide rollers 5 arranged above the cans in pairs on each side of a central drive shaft normal to, and geared to, the roller shafts. The shaft 12 of the front pair of rollers 5 is driven via gearing 14, 15 from the shaft of the draw frame intake rollers. An extension 13 of shaft 12 drives the front roller pairs 5 of the other units of the frame. The central drive shaft is housed within a tubular frame member 1. A rod located beneath each roller 5 serves to guide thereto two slivers drawn from the cans beneath. Thereafter the slivers pass over the more forward rollers 5 to a comb 17 which keeps the individual slivers separate. To avoid sagging of sliver between rollers 5, and to provide approximately equal sliver tension at the input to the draw frame, the roller shafts are all driven at the same speed, but the roller diameters progressively decrease with increase of distance from the draw frame.
