696,329. Control of D.C. motors. RITZERFELD, W. and RITZERFELD, G. June 15, 1951 [Jan. 22, 1951], No. 14226/51. Class 38 (iii) [Also in Group XVI] The speed of a D.C. motor 29 driving a printing roller (see Group XVI) is progressively varied by a variable resistor, the adjusting arm of which is driven from the roller through reduction worm gearing. The field current of the motor is supplied from an A.C. source through a selenium rectifier 31, a smoothing condenser being provided. The armature current is supplied through a thyratron valve 32 which passes a part of each positive half-cycle determined by the phase relations of the voltage in the triggering grid 34. The phase relationship of this voltage is governed by the variable resistor 33 alteration of which causes the leading current in the condenser C to have a greater or lesser effect.
