551,106. Automatic control systems for web feeding apparatus. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. March 2, 1942, No. 2703. Addition to 532,101. [Class 38 (iv)] Tension; r e l a t i v e speed.-A generator (not shown) braking a webroll or the like is controlled to maintain constant stress in a web, wire or like 1 fed to a printing or other machine by a movable roll 3 operating a potentiometer 11 giving a control voltage proportional to the position of the roll, and a generator 13 giving a control voltage proportional to the speed of variation of that position, i.e., to the speed of variation of stress in the web. The generator may be driven, (1) by a roll 12 over which passes a wire 8 coupled to the roll 3 by a lever 5, or (2) by the shaft of the roll 9 which is similarly operated to drive the potentiometer contact 10 ; gearing may be included in this drive.
