Abstract

1434266 Automatic control of speed and tension MASCHINENFABRIK WIFAG 10 Dec 1973 [11 Dec 1972] 57129/73 Heading G3R In a control system for a moving web, the speed of a roller, driving the web in conjunction with a pinch roller, is rectroactively controlled. The motor has an alternative control according to the web tension error, as sensed by a swing roller around which the web passes. In the emodiment, for control of a paper web to a printing machine, the web drive motor 5 is controlled by the error between the actual motor speed, as measured by tachometer 6, and a desired speed from tachometer 7 that is driven by the printing machine motor. Any error from amplifier 9 passes via switch 10, limiter 11 and amplifier 12 to controller 14, that varies the armature power to motor 5. In response to a command to increase the web speed, switch 10 is, manually or automatically, moved to its alternative position, where motor 5 is controlled by amplifier 18 according to the difference between the actual web tension, as sensed by a dancing roller 4, and a desired tension set on potentiometer 16.
