Abstract

1370459 Feeding webs FMC CORP 15 Nov 1971 [18 Feb 1971] 52921/71 Heading B8R The core shaft 24 of a wheeled web roll stand 22, from which a web W is advanced to a bagmaking machine 29, is provided with a pneumatically operated braking mechanism 80 associated with a control system (Fig. 9, not shown) arranged so that the braking effect can be applied for a period slightly exceeding the time required to stop rotation of the supply roll during interruption of demand for the web which is advanced intermittently through the machine 20 but which is drawn from the supply roll by means of continuously driven feed rollers 38. A dancer roll tensioning assembly 46 stores or releases web according to intermittent demand downstream of the machine 20 and also serves to control the speed of the rollers 38 in accordance with the web demand, an arm 146 of the assembly co-operating with a potentiometer 164 in the circuit of the roller drive motor M for this purpose. The web roll is also provided with a drag brake (40), Fig. 2 (not shown), which operates continuously during the unwinding operation.
