Abstract

[Also in Division H2] In an arrangement for maintaining constant yarn tension, winding unit 1 is driven by motor 4, unwinding unit 5 being coupled to braking motor 9 through slip coupling 8 which is energized through resistor 10 varied in accordance with the material being unwound. The motors 4, 9, are supplied through rectifiers 19, 20 from transformer 15 having tap 16 driven by pilot motor 14, the motor 9 being driven in a direction to oppose the unwinding operation. At the limiting positions of the tap 16, standstill voltage is provided for either the motors 4 or 9 so as to maintain the yarn tension constant under these conditions. When the drive is switched off, the winding and unwinding units are held by brakes 2, 6. In another arrangement, the clutch 8 is energized through a potentiometer for setting the optimum yarn tension for different sizes of yarn. The diameter of the material being wound is sensed to control the motor 4 for constant winding speed, the motors 4, 9, being supplied through magnetic amplifiers or silicon controlled rectifiers. In a further embodiment, several take-off beams are each coupled through an eddy-current clutch to a braking motor, the several braking motors being in parallel across the output of a power amplifier. In a drive system for warping machines, all the unwinding units are served by one braking motor of the three-phase commutator type adapted for brush-shifting. A similar motor drives the winding unit and has a controller in common with the braking motor. The winding and unwinding units may be associated with squirrel-cage induction motors with a continuously variable speed transmission between each motor and the driving or driven part. Speed may be regulated by means of static frequency converters.
