Abstract
1,185,017. Warp beaming apparatus. COURTAULDS Ltd. 11 July, 1967 [12 July, 1966], No. 31240/66. Heading DIM. In warp beaming apparatus in which the speed of the beam is reduced as winding progresses, in order to keep the yarn speed constant, the position of a member such as a comb 10 is also controlled. As shown, an induction coupling 3 between a driving motor 2 and the beam 1 is controlled by signals from a control unit 5 in accordance with voltage applied to said unit by a tacho-generator 8 coupled to the front roller of three tensioning rollers 7 for the warp sheet 6. The height of comb 10 is regulated by a reversible motor 13 through a rack and pinion drive 12, 11 under control of a unit 18 which compares the voltages derived from a tacho-generator 20 coupled to the beam and a contact 14 of a rheostat 16 to which is applied the voltage from tacho-generator 8. The contact 14 moves with the comb 10 so that as the speed of the beam reduces during winding the comb 10 is progressively raised. The control unit 5 may incorporate a safety switch to shut down the apparatus if no signal is received from the tacho-generator 8 as when no yarns are being wound. A member of the braking mechanism for stopping the beam on yarn breakage or termination of the winding, may be actuated by the rack 11 to increase the braking force in proportion to the inertia of the beam or the diameter increases. The width of the comb during the winding of a diablo beam may be increased as the diameter of the beam increases. It is stated that electrical current or frequency could be utilised instead of voltage as the controlling quantities and that a hydraulic or pneumatic system under electrical control could be used instead of motor 13 for actuating the comb 10 or other controlled member.
